English Speaking & Transporting

Key Takeaways

  • Effective English speaking is similar to transportation, involving four key entities: the sender, the receiver, the package (or message), and the medium (or method of communication).
  • When speaking, it's easy to focus on the sender (ourselves) and the package (our message), but the most important aspect is actually the receiver, and how they are receiving and interpreting our message.
  • Good speakers prioritize their audience, focusing on what they want to convey and how their message is being received, rather than worrying about their own performance or errors.
  • To improve your speaking skills, try shifting your focus from yourself to your audience, and prioritize their needs and understanding of your message.
  • By focusing on the receiver and delivering your message with their needs in mind, you can become a more engaging, confident, and effective speaker.

English speaking is you know like transportation. Say for example you're you want to send a Courier to somebody in other city. English speaking is very very similar to that.

How let's compare both the things. When you want to send a Courier, you need 4 distinct entities, 1 you, that is the sender, second, the receiver to whom you are sending your Courier, Third the package what you want to send from one place to another.

And first one is the medium, how you will send it, by which Courier you will send it by air, by mail or in what way.

So these are the four medias. When we want to send something from one place to another sender, you receiver the person at the other end, the package what you want to send and 3rd 1/4 one is the medium. Compare this with English speaking.

When we are speaking with someone again there are 4 entities involved, 1 you who want to speak with other person, who want to convey one idea, one message to the other person.

Second entity is that other person or group of persons to whom you are talking to. Third one is the package, the idea, the thoughts, what exactly you want to tell them.

That is your package OK and 4th 1 is the medium the way you are interacting with them it might be in one-on-one setting that is face to face or it might be you are talking from a string stitch and they are sitting or it might be on you know telephone. It might be in a group.

So that is the medium. Another thing in medium is how what you are using to convey your thoughts. Sometimes it may be a powerful presentation, sometimes it will be a video, sometimes it will be simply you are speaking with that.

So English speaking is similar to transportation and the same manner we have to consider what is the most important part in all this.

OK, when I ask people what is the most important part in all this speaking, most of the times their answer is the package, the thought. No doubt that is an important part. What you are trying to say or what you are saying is? Of course, important, but more important than that is the receiver.

When we are speaking, we have to focus on the receiver. We have to focus on what he is actually getting from your message, from your package.

Most of the times we keep on focusing on the sender. That is me. If I'm talking to you, I'm focusing on me, myself, my errors, my good points. And I totally forget about the receiver, the good speaker.

They do exactly opposite. They have in their mind what they want to convey. The package is already well prepared for now. What they are looking for is who is actually listening to them, who is the receiver of their message. And they focus entirely on that audience, what they are doing, how they are doing, whether they are listening or not, whether they are getting it or not. And that's why we call them good speakers.

They actually forget themselves, they forget the sender. Similarly, we should focus on the receiver.

Of course the message should be there. Once you prepare the message, then you have to focus while delivering.

You have to focus totally on the receiver. Try doing that from today and you will see tremendous difference in your whole attitude towards speaking. You will be more likely. You will be less self-conscious, you will be focused on other person more and less on yourself and that it in itself makes you more interesting on the receiver.

Summary

The video compares English speaking to transportation, highlighting the importance of considering the sender, receiver, package, and medium in both contexts. It emphasizes that when speaking, one should focus on the receiver, understanding what they are getting from the message, rather than focusing on oneself. The video suggests that good speakers prioritize their audience, preparing their message and then delivering it with a focus on the receiver, which makes them more effective and engaging communicators. By adopting this approach, individuals can improve their speaking skills, become more confident, and convey their messages more effectively.
